Write Music for the Emancipation Bells

Want to hear your music waft across the rooftops? We do, too! The National Bell Festival invites composers to submit original compositions to be debuted at the Emancipation Bells. When the belfry construction nears completion, we’ll be announcing grants to local composers to create new music for carillon, with the opportunity to hear your work played at the Emancipation Bells inaugural ringing event and throughout the year at our free recitals and programming.

Additional details will be announced soon, but we’d love to hear music inspired by the community east of the Anacostia River, the spirit of freedom, and the work of abolitionists honored in the Emancipation Bells. A new library of works by local composers will be curated at the Emancipation Bells – ensuring the voice of the instrument reflects the beauty and soul of the neighborhood.
