Coinciding with National Cities, Towns, and Villages Month, this nationwide bell ringing event highlights the contributions of America’s local governments in improving the lives of current and future constituents.
 

‘Toll the Bell’ Sound Installation for Gun Violence Awareness

Bells have long been used for calling communities to action – alerting residents of impending danger, like a coming storm or a hostile threat, and giving advanced notice in times of peril. Bells can also call people together in contemplation.

Community 'Trash to Treasure' Clean-up Day
Location: D.C. Parks, Potomac River, Anacostia River

The National Bell Festival is pleased to join forces with Ward 8 Woods, Potomac Riverkeeper Network, Potomac Conservancy, Casey Trees, and Community Forklift to cull trash from area green spaces and waterways. All are invited to lend a hand in helping us clean Washington, D.C. parklands and rivers of man-made debris.

The Star-Spangled Banner on Bells
Location: Robert A. Taft Memorial and Carillon

This Fourth of July, let freedom ring at the annual concert on bells from the tranquil Taft Memorial and Carillon – just steps from Union Station and the Mall. By resolution of Congress, the Carillonneur of the Capitol plays "The Star-Spangled Banner" and other patriotic favorites from the 11-story tower at 2:00pm every Independence Day.

‘Litter Bell’ Metal Sorting and Cleaning
Location: Washington, D.C.

Community organizations including Ward 8 Woods, Potomac Riverkeeper Network, Potomac Conservancy, Casey Trees, and Community Forklift have been culling trash from area green spaces and waterways, then stashing away for us any found bits of bronze, brass, copper, and tin. The National Bell Festival is commissioning a new bell to be cast with these metals – but first, they need cleaning!
