Community organizations including Ward 8 Woods, Potomac Riverkeeper Network, Potomac Conservancy, Casey Trees, and Community Forklift have been culling trash from area green spaces and waterways, then stashing away for us any found bits of bronze, brass, copper, and tin. The National Bell Festival is commissioning a new bell to be cast with these metals – but first, they need cleaning!
Before we send a heaping pile of trash to the bell foundry, volunteers are invited to gather, sort, and clean the collected scrap. We’ll remove unwanted debris, disassemble linked parts, polish away years of corrosion, and organize our haul for shipping.
Advanced registration is encouraged. Please wear comfortable attire that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Sturdy shoes and thick gloves are recommended.
