Join the National League of Cities (NLC) in commemorating its 100th anniversary by lifting up a patriotic clangor from sea to shining sea. Coinciding with National Cities, Towns, and Villages Month, this nationwide bell ringing event highlights the contributions of America’s local governments in improving the lives of current and future constituents.
How to participate
NLC is partnering with the National Bell Festival to ring bells throughout the country on May 22, 2024. Want to join in the tintinnabulation? Simply pick up a bell or grab a rope and let it ring! While communities are encouraged to ring bells at any time throughout the day, NLC will be leading the ringing from Washington, D.C., at 1:00pm Eastern with 10 tolls – one for each decade of NLC’s history. If your community is interested in ringing along, capture your participation in this form from NLC (external).
Don’t forget to spread the word and share your bell ringing contribution! Participating communities are encouraged to film and take photos of the bell ringing and then post them on social media, tagging @LeagueofCities and @BellFestival with the hashtag #NLC100.
What is the National League of Cities?
In 1924, 10 state leagues came together at the University of Kansas to create a new, national organization to serve as a clearinghouse for information about municipal government. Over the next 100 years, the organization has grown in size and influence, serving as a trusted resource for mayors, city council members, and municipal government staff, providing unparalleled research and technical expertise, and helping local leaders better deliver for their residents.
The National League of Cities (NLC), now based in Washington, D.C., also serves as a relentless advocate for the nation’s cities, towns, and villages in our nation’s capital, and has played a historic role in shaping some of the country’s most significant pieces of public policy.
